Your Initial Meeting

Meeting an adviser for the first time can be daunting. Our first meeting is all about you, your goals and objectives, financial situation, and how we can help you.

Before your first meeting, you would have had a Discovery Call with one of the MLS Financial team. This Discovery Call is about ensuring that we are the right professional to help, and the goals of advice for you. If we believe we can help you, we will send out an invite to meet with us for the first time.

What to Expect

Your first meeting is obligation-free and typically runs for 60–90 minutes. During this time, we will:

  • Learn more about you, your goals and priorities
  • Review your current financial position
  • Identify key areas where financial advice may assist you
  • Explain our process, services, and how we work with clients over time
  • Provide a clear outline of costs, both upfront and ongoing as required

Our aim is to give you clarity to make an informed decision. You’ll walk away with a better understanding of your options and how advice can benefit you.

What to Prepare

To make the most of your first appointment, we encourage you to give some thought to the following:

  • What are your short and long-term financial goals? (e.g. retirement, saving for a home, protecting your family, reducing tax)
  • Do you have any specific questions or concerns?
  • Are there any major financial decisions coming up? (e.g. property sale, inheritance, job change)

We can help you to identify and outline these areas, but if you go into your first meeting with an idea, you will receive more value from financial advice.

The detailed items we will need include:

  • Superannuation account details (Name of funds and account numbers)
  • Details of your budget, or an idea on how much you are saving each week.
  • Tax file numbers
  • Information on your financial assets and debts.
  • Life insurance policy details

If you can bring this information, it will help us to provide a smoother experience for you in your initial meeting.

Yes, we have significant experience helping clients manage entitlements, particularly around retirement. We can even complete your applications on your behalf if you wish.

Yes. We take pride in explaining things in plain language and making sure you feel confident in the advice you receive. If you feel like it is too complex, you can stop us and we will explain in different terms, or different diagrams.

If you decide to move forward, we’ll outline the next steps, including a written letter of engagement, timelines, and what to expect throughout the advice process.

If you have provided us with the relevant information in the first meeting, we can have our advice prepared between 2 to 4 weeks depending on how quick your super funds can allow us to access information. If we are waiting on information, we cannot proceed until all information is received.

Whilst you may have your initial meetings with one of our advisers, we operate as a team, and you may be dealing with other members of the MLS Financial team on different aspects of your financial plan. This helps to ensure that you get prompt service, and complex matters are dealt with by team members with the best experience. Think of it as getting two advisers instead of just one.

Ongoing advice and the ongoing review service we provide is not required. If your situation does not warrant an ongoing review, we will not require you to be an ongoing fee paying client.. but you can always come back to us when needed.

However, we find that our clients that receive ongoing advice greatly benefit from the services we provide. The ongoing advice is crucial to ensure that your financial plan remains current for you, as well as ensuring your investments, super funds, insurances or Centrelink entitlements are right in the everchanging environment.

On top of all that, is the confidence and peace of mind you will receive, by knowing your financial plan is managed by the MLS Financial team. If you are not sure on the benefit, feel free to chat with us or look at our Google reviews for the benefit we provide.
